Today we enjoy the Outback Pioneers Nogo Station Experience, seeing Longreach sights along the way. It’s at Nogo Station that the Kinnon family really share their world. In the historic shearing sheds, we will meet the merinos and marvel at the wool story. Then, it’s the not-to-be-missed station safari by open-top double-decker with a spectacular view of the vast plains where wedge-tailed eagles fly and local wildlife mingles with iconic cattle breeds, stock-horses and feral animals like desert camels, wild donkeys, pigs and more. We enjoy a saddle-bag lunch under the gum trees. Return to town to visit the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame to discover this iconic museum and explore the galleries of outback history. Tonight, we enjoy the Stonegrill® Dining Experience. In the rustic, outback restaurant at The Welcome Home, it’s more than a meal – it’s an experience!

This morning we visit the Qantas Founders Museum to discover the pioneers of flight and tour the iconic planes, before lunch in a local cafe (own expense). This afternoon is free to enjoy Longreach. Tonight, we enjoy the first Festival of Outback Opera events in Longreach, Singing in the Night. This majestic concert showcases opera’s best loved hits among the deep history of Camden Park Station. The historic 18,000-acre working cattle station boasts 360-degree views of uninterrupted horizon. On this very special evening, audiences will be enchanted by the voices of classically trainted singer-songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke, tenor Rosario La Spina, soprano Rachelle Durkin as well as Shaun Brown, Hayley Sugars and a host of other artists as they perform alongside the University of Queensland Pulse Chamber Orchestra joined by musicians of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

We travel to Ilfracombe to enjoy a typical Outback pub day with lunch at the Wellshot Hotel. This afternoon, come in your riding boots and ballgown and be ready for a gala like no other. We start the evening on a sunset cruise aboard the M.V. Longreach Explorer, with 360-degree sweeping river and floodplain views. Arriving back at Smithys Camp along the coolibah tree-lined Thomson River, enjoy an evening of fine dining, sublime singing and dancing. This relaxed, yet stylish, gathering embodies the spirit and iconography of the Outback with its casual approach then adds just enough glitz to ensure the evening is a memorable one. Atmospheric lighting sets the mood as Australia’s finest soloists deliver a series of opera favourites throughout the 3-course meal, each perfectly paired to the culinary offering. For dessert, the dancefloor opens with an upbeat DJ set to continue the celebrations well into the night.

This morning we enjoy a country buffet breakfast at The Welcome Home, before we clamber aboard the old stagecoach, just as a pioneer would have done, while the team of horses wait patiently. Then it’s off with creaks and rattles to the old Longreach-Windorah mail route. There we’ll travel along the bush track, before a short gallop to ‘outrun the storm’. This is the only place in Australia you can gallop in a stagecoach! The experience also includes a delicious outback smoko (morning tea), a classic bush movie in the old theatrette and the Old Time Tent Show with its outback skills, animals, humour and quirky entertainment! We then visit The Station Store in Eagle Street’s heritage precinct. We spend our last night in Longreach at Do We Need Another Hero? A performance of Opera Queensland’s new touring show, where pop and rock meet the classics. Do We Need Another Hero? is a fusion of the classical and the contemporary, seamlessly blending the grandeur of opera with chart-topping anthems that pay homage to heroes from every corner of our world.
