From Vaduz station, transfer into the capital for a welcome at the Princely Wine Cellars and savour a chilled glass of exquisite Ice-Wine from the Prince’s vineyards.
Explore Vaduz on a guided tour with its picturesque streets, unveiling the capital’s medieval charm and modern sophistication. Today is another one for the cameras! Upon leaving Switzerland pass along the shorelines of Lakes Zug and Lucerne before ascending the scenic St Gotthard Pass. Once through the old St Gotthard tunnel the journey descends through Lugano towards Lake Como in Italy.
Enjoy a private cruise across the serene water and visit the beautiful lakeside town of Bellagio, where there’s a stop for lunch and an opportunity for souvenir shopping. Lake Como is surrounded by mountains and dramatic cliffs, making it quite different from the other Italian lakes.
Returning by boat to Como, enjoy a guided tour of this historic town before rejoining the train. Dinner is served on board as the journey continues.

This morning, after travelling along the south shore of Lake Garda, arrive in Verona, famed as the setting of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Enjoy
a walking tour of Verona’s famous sites, including the well preserved first century Roman Amphitheatre in Piazza Bra.
In the afternoon, reboard the train for lunch, heading to Postojna. Spend a relaxing afternoon on board, taking in the changing landscapes of Italy and Slovenia.

This morning venture into the enchanting depths of Postojna Caves. Aboard an underground train, delve into a subterranean world of magnificence, wandering through a network of grand halls adorned with a myriad of intricate cave formations.
This afternoon the train continues through the Julian Alps to picturesque Lake Bled. Take a private pletna boat around the lake to a charming, tear-shaped island with a 17th-century church. Explore the dramatic cliffside where the iconic Bled Castle is situated, offering panoramic views of the lake.
Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner on board the Golden Eagle Danube Express heading for the Hungarian capital of Budapest.

This morning, after a final breakfast on board, arrive in Budapest, where the River Danube divides historic Buda from vibrant Pest. On the Buda side, the old town and the imposing Royal Palace dominate the skyline, offering sweeping views across the river to the commercial heart of Pest.
Begin with a panoramic tour across the river to Fisherman’s Bastion, famed for its fairytale turrets and stunning views over the city. Enjoy lunch at Felix Kitchen & Bar, set by the Danube in the heart of Budapest. Later, experience a private guided visit of the magnificent Hungarian Parliament Building, an architectural masterpiece on the banks of the Danube and one of Europe’s most iconic legislative buildings.
Later, transfer to Matild Palace Budapest, set within a beautifully restored historic palace overlooking the Danube. Travel in some of the finest rail accommodation available in Europe. Each deluxe sleeper carriage has just five spacious yet intimate en-suite cabins offering every convenience and comfort so you may sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery as it rolls by.
Private bathrooms feature a shower with constant hot water, washbasin and toilet. There is a heated towel rail, shaver socket and hairdryer. A range of toiletries and a dressing gown are provided. Cabins have individually controlled air-conditioning, lighting with dimmer switches, individual reading lights, power sockets and a safe.
Co-ordinated fabrics complement wood-panelled walls and brass fittings. Two comfortable armchairs provide daytime seating and a free-standing chair adds flexibility. Cupboards and a full length wardrobe provide ample storage whilst the large picture window and full length mirror enhance the spacious feel. A second window will open for fresh air and for that perfect photo opportunity.
During dinner each evening the living room is converted into two comfortable lower beds by your attendant who is also on hand to bring you early morning tea or coffee.
